Our goal is to identify ways that we can effectively support and enhance the working lives of our valued fellow employees. Staff Council Presents Health Living Week - June 1 - June 5, 2009

The UNO Staff Council present the first ever Healthy Living Week at the University of New Orleans. We will feature daily speakers, healthy activities, a Healthy Living menu during lunch in The Galley and culminating with the Staff/Faculty Volleyball Tournament on Friday, June 5, 4:45 pm., at the HPC building.

All Week - June 1 - 5, 2009

Work out at the Recreation and Fitness Center - FOR FREE
UNO Staff that are not members of the UNO Recreation and Fitness Center can work out once a day all week to get a feel for this state-of-the-art fitness facility. When you finish your week, you can sign-up for the 99 days for $99 dollar summer special. You must have a current UNO Staff Identification Card to enter. Only one visit per day.

Take a Walk around Campus
We will meet everyday (except Friday, June 5) between 4:30 and 4:45 pm at the Recreation and Fitness Center for a 1.25 mile walk around the perimeter of the campus. This is a great way to get your workout program started and meet other staff members that you have never met before. You may get into the habit to do this a few times a week after work.

Daily Activities
Each day at lunch we will feature a speaker or seminar leader to share general health information and/or provide demonstrations of how we can all live a healthier life. Grab a lunch item from the ARAMARK Healthy Living Menu in The Galley or “Brown Bag” it and bring it with you to the RIS Snack/Smoothie Bar.

Annual Holiday Food Drive 2008

The UNO Staff Council Holiday Food Drive was once again a huge success for the 2008 holiday season. Second Harvest Food Bank received the donation of pounds of food collected from the UNO community. Staff Council thanks everyone who contributed. Special thanks to Roy Robertson and his crew from Property Control who contributed generously by picking up the donations and transporting to the Second Harvest Food Bank. Staff Council is indebted to this group for their continual help.

Every year Staff Council donates non-perishable items to be distributed by Second Harvest Food Bank. Collection boxes are set out at specified locations around campus. In lieu of non-perishables, checks can be written to Second Harvest

Thank you for your generosity!

What's the Buzz all about?

The 2008-2009 UNO Staff Council approved a proposal for the creation of a monthly newsletter to inform the university community of relevant issues and to have a little fun. Our own Vice President of Staff Council, Billy Miller suggested the most fitting name for the newsletter - The Buzz.

In addition to providing information to the UNO community, we also plan to highlight staff members and allow you to get to know them just a little better.

The first issue of The Buzz will appear November 17, 2008.
